I believe something special might be happening
|
First time to beat Liverpool away, for 52 years. Comfortably beating Arsenal away. Outclassing Newcastle. A manager with genuine passion, a brilliant mind, yet also, humility.
And the players. In the 45 years I've supported this shower of shit, never have I seen so much strength and depth.
And the ace up the sleeve, the Olympic Stadium. Meaning much greater revenue whilst the tax payers pay the bill (astounding bit of business, you must admit).

I agree, 22 really good players plus a crop of promising youth players. Just hope we can keep them all happy as many won't be playing much.

Cautiously optimistic - this side and squad has the makings of something special. Still a way to go but as they get to know each other better and get used to the Bilic way of doing things, if they can really "click", we could be in for a fantastic season.

A dream that does not fade & die? We can but live in hope.
The West Ham way is back up and running.
Blow THAT out your arse, all who doubted it ever existed.

I'd still be content with a mid-table finish and playing exciting football, which we have been doing, for this season... Should be very achievable...
If we can do any better than that; then fantastic...
If we lose our way a bit and finish lower mid-table, but still play decent football, then I'd be content with that as well for this season...

There was a similar thread to this, last year.
5 games in and we are going to win the league!

When you consider what other teams have spent in the window then I think you can say we have made shrewd investment... I don't think I would swop our transfer activity with any other PL team yet we were only (about) 7th in the spending table... that's pretty shrewd in my book.

Sounds great, until you mention the four goals against Bournemouth and the defeat to Leicester. Don't get carried away, most of us have seen it before. :-)

Much is being said about our attacking options but lets not forget we have kept clean sheets against Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle so far. Fair play, other than Arsenal the other two have been poor in that half of the pitch but it's still good going.
It's a shame we lost Ogbonna because i liked the look of our back 4 last night. Tomkins played very well on the right. I hope Jenko can come back and make up for the mistakes he made. He needs to.

at home we still need to work our defensive shape and also need to retain the ball a lot better but I definitely feel more optimistic and look forward to actually watching us now...which is more than I could have hoped for a year ago

Fair enough. I'll wait and see. If every player you buy performs well on the pitch I guess it makes anything you do seem shrewd. So it's happy days.

Don't think that's entirely fair, V.
I think our recruitment has been smart, and more specifically ordered and with purpose, to the point where we now have at least two players for every position, barring full back (arguably). It's also about keeping people happy, without European football you can't just go signing a load of great players who aren't going to be playing. In each case of our 'back up' signings, they are young, hungry to prove a point and yet won't be of a type to EXPECT to be starting every week and kicking up shit when they don't.

Not doubting the investment - nobody can accuse the club of penny-pinching. Whether it's 'shrewd' or not we'll see.

Beating Arsenal and Liverpool away from home, is an excellent achievement, no matter what state those 2 clubs are in.

I think people are overestimating our "achievements" thus far. We've beaten a slightly misfiring Arsenal, a very limp Liverpool side, and a very poor Newcastle side. We've lost at home to Leicester and Bournemouth.
If our midfield dictates terms (or at least holds its own) against Man City, then we can start to get excited.
